MIDAS is proud to present its production of Godspell.
Stephen Schwartz’s Godspell is an immensely successful rock opera which needs little introduction. When it was first produced on Broadway in 1971 it broke new ground in its stage treatment of the historical Bible. Based on the Gospel according to St Matthew it deals with the last days of Jesus, and includes dramatized versions of several well-known parables.
And yet it is more than telling of stories. Godspell is a questioning of existence and religion, a demonstration of joy, and a celebration of humanity. It is a jubilant and uplifting experience.
The ensemble cast were originally conceived as clowns, improvising scenery and costumes, and using many well-known theatrical devices, pantomime, vaudeville and varied musical styles to interpret one of humanity’s most famous events.
Famous for songs such as Day by Day, Prepare Ye and All for the Best, the score of Godspell is a treat, combining a range of musical styles from Gospel to Pop.
Godspell was produced in 2017.
